On Monday 1st February, as part of the ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds’ seminar series, Education & Dialogue Charity and the Institute for Spirituality, Religion and Public Life at Leeds Metropolitan University hosted Rev David Randolph-Horn who gave a seminar titled ‘Towards a Pedagogy of Interfaith Encounter and Dialogue: Some thoughts about ways of learning in Leeds’.

 
Newcastle Turkish Community visited Dave Anderson (MP) | 29 January 2010

Newcastle branch of Education and Dialogue Charity visited Newcastle Labour MP Dave Anderson in his office. He was informed about the activities of the charity by Hasan Hörgüç and Coşkun Köse, two of representatives of the charity. He was given a gift by the representatives on behalf of Turkish people living in Newcastle Region and Education and Dialogue Charity. During the conversation with Mr. Anderson, topic switched to Islam. Mr Anderson declared that Islam is a religion of peace.

 
Asure (Noah's Pudding) in Leeds | 28 January 2010


Education Dialogue Charity offered asure (Noah's Pudding) at Postgraduate Research Society Lunch in Leeds Metropolitan University on 28th January, Thursday. During that lunch, a get-together activity for post-graduate students, asure was offered as the dessert. Our project manager, Ismail Sezgin introduced and presented a brief description and information of how this pudding is cooked and where it comes from.

On Monday 25 January, Education & Dialogue Charity, in association with the Institute for Spirituality, Religion and Public Life hosted Harbans Singh Sagoo, who gave a seminar titled ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds: a Sikh perspective’, as part of the ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds’ seminar series, which have been running since its inauguration with Rev Canon Charles Dobbin’s seminar as the first session of the series. Holocaust Memorial Day in Newcastle | 24 January 2010

Education & Dialogue Charity’s Project Manager Dr. Faruk Ozalp and two colleagues have joined Holocaust Memorial Day in Newcastle. The day has been commemorated on Sunday 24 January 2010 in The Journal Tyne Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne. The theme of the day this year is ‘Survivors’. Prof Emeritus Max Farrar, ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds’ (3) | 19 January 2010

On Tuesday 19 January 2010, as part of the ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion' seminar series, organized jointly with institute for spirituality, Religion and Public Life, prof Emeritus Max Farrar gave a seminar titled ' Radical Protest and Engaged Dialogue: Campaigning for Racial Justice in Leeds since the 1960s’ in which he talked about his experince and  previous research on the recent history of different ethnic communities in Leeds from an academic perspective. In his seminar, Prof Max Farrar shared his insights about a series of events in Leeds’ history related to the issues of racism, community dialogue and urban protests, discussing the line of events by sharing photos and news pieces from recent history.

 
Seminar ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds: A Muslim Perspective’ | 11 January 2010

On Monday 11 January, as part of the seminar series ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds’, Dr Hassan Al-Katib gave a seminar titled ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds: A Muslim Perspective’, presenting his insights about the Muslim community in Leeds in the context of his work experience as a campus imam for Leeds Universities and as a member of Leeds Faiths Forum. Dr Hassan Al-Katib talked about his experiences in the aftermath of the traumatic events of 7/7 and how the Muslim community joined together with other faith and cultural communities in Leeds to show solidarity against all kinds of aggression.

 
Manchester Cathedral Visit | 09 January 2010

Education & Dialogue Charity volunteers visited Manchester Cathedral with Reverend Philip Rowlings, where they met Rev Canon Andrew Shanks and learned about the history of the cathedral. Rev Canon Andrew Shanks kindly hosted the Education & Dialogue volunteers, informing them about the background and importance of the cathedral and guided them inside the cathedral answering their questions, which was followed by a dinner at the Cathedral`s library with the members of the cathedral.
